Feature: Baby Shower

I'll never forget the time she sat in my chair. It was my first month in a new salon.  I was still nervous about the new coloring system and which products were what and now this girl (who was probably younger than me) was questioning my skills. She asked me a million times if I knew what I was doing and made me promise it would look beautiful. She talked like she was the coolest thing on the earth and told me all about her dance competition she just won for her job at a perfume counter. All I could think was "Who does this girl think she is and how can I become best friends with her?" Similar to how you may feel at about Katniss (J-Law)!

Fast forward over 10 years later, this girl is my best friend and I'm actually a year younger- Ha! It was the moment she saw how gorgeous her new highlights were and we swapped numbers as she was checking out at the salon front desk, I knew I was never letting her walk out of my life (like ever).  She is the person who is always there even though we may only talk once a week and sneak in a quick coffee date between life's crazy schedule. She is the other half of my broken heart best friend necklace and if she was brave enough, I would get a matching tattoo with her. Yep, she's that permanent.  Our husbands watch us in amazement as we have a full conversation that is like two people in their own foreign language and we don't miss a beat. She walked down the aisle before me and I got to stand next to her when she said her vows.

Next milestone ~  I was one of the first people to know that she was welcoming a blessing into this world and I immediately started planning her baby shower that afternoon. I wanted to give her a special day. I wanted to spoil her baby ("we" don't know if it is a boy or girl) and I wanted to make sure I could do everything I could to be the friend that makes the transition of a new life amazing.

We had soooo much fun and the shower this past weekend was wonderful! I love you Julie and Matt and can't wait to hold, love and kiss on Baby G!

The theme was "Cute As A Button"

In order to keep the party a little more eco-friendly, each guest had their own drinking glass which doubled as a favor.
As a huge fan of mason jars, I garnished each straw with a button cut-out. We also gave each guest a baby-powder scented hand soap. Many thanks to Soaps by Alexandra!
To avoid a yellow/green shower but sticking with a gender neutral color palette, I decided to go with golds, oranges and turquoises! Julie has no artwork for the nursery what-so-ever so I decided to hand paint a canvas for her. Once the baby is here I will make her adorable letters of the baby's name.

Delicious cake from Sugarbakers!
This punch was a HUGE hit! We ran out in the first 20 minutes! It was dangerously good. Even the dad-to-be commented on the yummy concoction. The recipe was super simple as well!

1. In a large punch bowl stir together 1 package of Kool-Aid (we used Blue Raspberry), 1 (2 liter) bottle of Ginger Ale, 1 (64 fluid ounce) bottle of white grape juice, 1 cup of sugar.

2. The hue of the punch looked more like dirty water from a car wash so we added some blue food coloring to enhance the "bath water."

3. We spiked it by adding some Malibu Coconut Rum.

4. To make the bath bubbles we added 6-7 scoops of orange sherbert.

Enjoy!

I vote for a baby GIRL!

A huge thanks to Steph, Annie, Sue and Miss Mary!

A fun way to help build Baby G's library ~ We had each guest bring along a favorite book and write a note inside the front cover. We requested this when we sent out the invitation.

"The book request is optional. If you decide to help with the library please write a little message in your book so Baby G will know who the book is from. Books need not be wrapped, but placed in the book basket when you arrive. We will present the basket to Julie during the shower."

During the shower, we had Julie pull a book from the basket and the winner received a door prize.
